The Registrar of Community Housing hosted a meeting with Registrars from Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) recently to share experiences and support best practice.
NSW Registrar of Community Housing, Roxane Shaw said it was important to consider issues that affect regulatory practice in each of the jurisdictions.
“This is a period of unprecedented change and growth in the community housing industry,” Ms Shaw said.
“It’s important that we regularly come together to discuss issues and challenges which we have in common.”
Acting Director of the Housing Registrar in Victoria, Jo McInerney said the meeting was a great opportunity to share Victoria’s experiences with their interstate colleagues.
“Regulation has been a part of the community housing landscape in Victoria since 2005 and the meeting was a great chance to share our experiences with other regulators,” Ms McInerney said.
“A clear theme from the meeting was the important role regulation plays in supporting growth in affordable housing.”
ACT Registrar of Not for Profit Housing Providers, Sally Gibson, said sharing ideas and best practice was vital.
“Meetings like this help to build on and exchange information about regulation,” Ms Gibson said.
“By sharing ideas and best practice we can support each other in our efforts to build a viable and diverse community housing sector.”
The Registrars agreed that it would be useful to have an ongoing arrangement which would extend to all states and territories.
